Learning Joint Detection, Equalization and Decoding for Short-Packet Communications

We propose and practically demonstrate a joint detection decoding scheme for short-packet wireless communications in scenarios that require to first detect the presence of message before actually it. For this, we extend recently proposed serial Turbo-autoencoder neural network (NN) architecture train it find short messages can be, all “at once”, detected, synchronized, equalized decoded when sent over an unsynchronized channel with memory. The conceptional advantage system stems from holistic structure superimposed pilots without need relying on dedicated preamble. This results not only higher spectral efficiency, but also translates into possibility shorter compared using compare error rate (DER), bit (BER) block (BLER) performance hand-crafted state-of-the-art conventional baseline our simulations show significant autoencoder-based every scenario up conveying $k\!=\!96$ information bits. Finally, evaluate confirm improved over-the-air (OTA) software-defined radio (SDR)-based measurement testbed.
